Dutch Design Week preview (and the first physical copy!)
Oh, dear! Only three weeks left until I present the book at Dutch Design Week (details below). And… I got to pick up the very first copy of my book a few days ago. I’ll admit: I’m thrilled.
To be accurate about DDW: I won’t be presenting the book. Because book presentations are, by definition, boring and salesy. Instead, I’m opting for a different angle. An angle hopefully more suited for the audience at DDW.
My talk will be about toxic artistry. As per my DDW project page:
“A common misconception in the creative industry is that creativity is a unique talent. Newcomers and veterans alike shape their identities around ‘being creative.’ Meanwhile, they struggle to flourish and perform in a world of clients, efficiency, budgets, and deadlines. At the heart of the problem lies toxic artistry. It is easily self-diagnosed using a simple test. Before the event, this test will be available for all participants. Within a minute or two, you’ll know whether or not you suffer from toxic artistry.”
Instead of talking about the book, I’ll talk about the many problems we face and how dire our outlook as creatives is. And then, lo and behold, my book turns out to hold all the answers. And then you can buy it on the spot and all your problems will be solved.
Meet Donald Roos
In other news, I partnered up with author of three books and createur extraordinaire Donald Roos. He’ll be joining me at Dutch Design Week to give a talk of his own titled ‘Saving The World By Doing Nothing.’ We’re still working out the intricacies of our timetable, but in a nutshell, either he’ll go first, or I will.
